Our wholesaler of flowers and plants is always selecting only the best growers for our webshop. That is why we only have the most excellent growers in our range. Today we would like to introduce you to Kwekerij Gebroeders van der Salm.
The brothers Hans and Paul van der Salm, then only twenty years old, were the ones who started the Van der Salm company at Kooiweg 32 in Boskoop in the late eighties. Year after year they invested a lot in the construction of greenhouses, cultivation systems, planting robots and delivery lines. Slowly but surely, attention was increasingly focused on the cultivation of Lavender, with Gaultheria as intermediate cultivation.
In the year 2000, the site at Kooiweg 15 in Boskoop was purchased, where a new, highly automated nursery was established with greenhouses, container fields, loading docks and an office. Kooiweg 15 is still the main location today.
In 2002 the company De Bent was founded in collaboration with Wansinck B.V.: a 7 hectare large open-field nursery, where a high-quality and wide range of boxwood, Ilex and Conica (Picea Glauca) is grown. Today, this company has three locations, including an 18 hectare open field nursery and 3.5 hectares of container fields.
Lavender cultivation has also started in Portugal since 2001/2002. Thanks to the pleasant, mild climate, market demand for flowering lavender plants is met in early spring. This enables Salm Boskoop to supply large batches of plants of uniform, high quality over a very long period.
May 3, 2007 is a black day for the company. Hans van der Salm is killed in a traffic accident in Portugal. Partly due to his vision, commitment and personality, Salm Boskoop has grown into a large, modern and innovative company of which all employees are equally proud.
In February 2011, a branch will be added in Hazerswoude, where all plants from Portugal are processed efficiently.
Since 2012, the company has its own breeding and testing location. Here they search for new varieties and test new cultivation methods. The goal is even stronger plants and less use of plant protection products.
Today Salm Boskoop has no fewer than eight branches in the Netherlands and one in Portugal. The range consists of Lavender, Boxwood, Gaultheria, Conica, Pinus Pinea, Ilex and Deco Fruit. The company is both MPS GAP and MPS SQ certified.
In short, a modern family business with a long history that grows fantastic products.
