Borst Flower Bulbs
Our wholesaler of flowers and plants is always busy selecting only the best growers for our webshop. That is why we only have the most excellent growers in our range. Today we would like to introduce you to Borst Bloembollen.
Borst Bloembollen is a real family business and was founded around 1910 by Jaap Borst who only grew vegetables at the time.
Shortly after the war, son Jan Borst took over the company from his father. Jan Borst introduced the tulip within the company, in addition to vegetables.
In 1974 the company had 4 hectares of tulips, which was a fairly large acreage at the time. All bulbs were then still planted and harvested by hand.
10 years later, (grand) son Willem joined the company.
In 1988 the cultivation of vegetables was stopped completely and the lily was introduced to the company.
In 1993 the current owner Jos Borst joined the company. Jos is the youngest son of Jan, who then handed the company over to his sons. In the same year the company became a BV with 15 hectares of tulips and 7 hectares of lilies
At the turn of the century, the cultivation of tulip flowers in greenhouses was added to the auction.
This was so successful that the company stopped growing lilies in 2008 and started to fully specialize in tulips.
Fun fact! The Rambo tulip was well represented at the Golden Globes. More than 10,000 tulips from the Borst nursery were displayed on the tables and stage.
