Spring flowers: Max Hurtaud's top 5

Fortunately, the spring flowers are coming again! Spring pushes the cold of winter into the background. While we were surprised with sub-zero temperatures at the beginning of February, spring has fought back well and fortunately we can say that it has warmed up well within a few days.

The birds also sing for our greatest spring happiness!

And who says spring, says gardening and of course says plants ... What a pleasure to see all the colors in nature as reborn. The joys of the colors as you like are scattered in varieties that are all different from each other ... And it must be said that the choice remains quite large!

I also thought that the fact of this rebirth gives us a little bit of excitement like it's Christmas. Nature offers us its greatest gift.

Spring flowers, we can't wait for you to get there!

So I said to myself (right, I'm talking to myself: D) that a small top 5 could get us all in the spring mood of 2021! Are you ready ?! Let's go!

Marjoland Rose Nursery

Our wholesaler in flowers and plants is always busy selecting only the best growers for our webshop. That is why we only have the most excellent growers in our range. Today we would like to introduce you to Marjoland.

Founder Joop van den Nouweland started as a grower in 1978 and rose nursery Marjoland was founded in the early 2000s when a new branch was built in Waddinxveen. In 2005 it was expanded with a mobile cultivation system of 2.7 ha. In the same year, Marjoland took over the adjacent 4.8 ha company.

2007-2008 was the time of upscaling and the Van den Nouweland family wanted to concentrate on one location. The company in Bleiswijk and one department in Waddinxveen were sold and companies were bought. This created one spacious, rectangular plot of 20 hectares.

The van den Nouweland family hides behind Marjoland. Father, mother, son, daughter, 2 uncles, aunt and a cousin. They are concerned with the development of the company. Together with the employees of Marjoland, Familie van den Nouweland strives for a good working atmosphere, in which the strong standards and values that the family possesses are central.

With its open culture, it offers everyone the opportunity to develop. Marjoland wants to be a social and transparent company in which knowledge is shared with others. At the same time, employees are encouraged to come up with solutions themselves and thereby create more involvement. In this way people grow within Marjoland.

Marjoland has the ambition to work with respect for people, nature and the environment. With demonstrably transparent MPS certification, we contribute to making the entire chain more sustainable.

Borst Flower Bulbs

Our wholesaler of flowers and plants is always busy selecting only the best growers for our webshop. That is why we only have the most excellent growers in our range. Today we would like to introduce you to Borst Bloembollen.

Borst Bloembollen is a real family business and was founded around 1910 by Jaap Borst who only grew vegetables at the time.

Shortly after the war, son Jan Borst took over the company from his father. Jan Borst introduced the tulip within the company, in addition to vegetables.

In 1974 the company had 4 hectares of tulips, which was a fairly large acreage at the time. All bulbs were then still planted and harvested by hand.

10 years later, (grand) son Willem joined the company.

In 1988 the cultivation of vegetables was stopped completely and the lily was introduced to the company.

In 1993 the current owner Jos Borst joined the company. Jos is the youngest son of Jan, who then handed the company over to his sons. In the same year the company became a BV with 15 hectares of tulips and 7 hectares of lilies

At the turn of the century, the cultivation of tulip flowers in greenhouses was added to the auction.

This was so successful that the company stopped growing lilies in 2008 and started to fully specialize in tulips.

Fun fact! The Rambo tulip was well represented at the Golden Globes. More than 10,000 tulips from the Borst nursery were displayed on the tables and stage.
